Last Radiation Treatment

Today Kara had her last whole-brain radiation treatment. They will do a follow-up MRI in four weeks to check on the status of the two smaller tumors that were in her brain. The fact that she has lost her hair is a good sign -- it means the chemotherapy and the radiation are doing their job, attacking all of the fast-metabolic cells like hair follicles... and the cancer!

Emma has taken Kara's hair loss in stride, and it doesn't seem to bother her. She has gone with Kara to her radiation treatments every day this week, which has been a real lift to Kara. The kind people at the radiation center gave Emma an Easter basket full of goodies on their last visit.

This weekend Kara, Matt, and the kids will be going to a birthday party for one of Emma's friends, and doing an Easter Egg Hunt at her church on Palm Sunday.

A General Thanksgiving
Accept, O Lord, my thanks and praise for all that you have done for me.
I thank you for the splendor of the whole creation,
for the beauty of this world,
for the wonder of life,
and for the mystery of love.

I thank you for the blessing of family and friends,
and for the loving care which surrounds me on every side.

I thank you for setting me at tasks which demand my best efforts,
and for leading me to accomplishments which satisfy and delight me.

I thank you also for those disappointments and failures
that lead me to acknowledge my dependence on you alone.

Above all, I thank you for your Son Jesus Christ;
for the truth of His Word and the example of His life;
for His steadfast obedience, by which He overcame temptation;
for His dying, through which He overcame death;
and for His rising to life again, in which we are raised to the life of your kingdom.

Grant me the gift of your Spirit,
that I may know Him and make Him known;
and through Him, at all times and in all places,
may give thanks to you in all things.
Amen.
- "A General Thanksgiving," modified from The Book of Common Prayer

Thank you so very much for keeping Kara in your thoughts and prayers. It cannot be said enough what a heartening effect it has had on her and her family.

Hi Kara,

We are enjoying the good photos of you and Matt and the kids. Also we are thankful for the Lord's continued faithfulness to you at this time especially.
Thanks for sharing the General Thanksgiving--a wonderful reminder to us all that we are always to give thanks and thereby learn to trust the Lord more and more each day.
We are very grateful for your steadfast testimony of the Lord's care and love and will pray especially as you begin another round of chemo next week.
Love,
Aunt Karen and Uncle Don

Kara, Matt, Emma, and Luke:

We are so happy that things are progressing well. Please thank all of those contributing to this site for helping us to stay updated without having to ring your phone off of the hook every day. We sure miss y'all and can't wait to shake our "oughs and colds" so that we can return to church activities and see you all again. Austin misses his best girlfriend, or as he says, the girl for whom he has "the lovebug." We all pray for each of your comfort during this time of temporary setback! We love you all, Kelly

With Spring coming to Kansas, we are so excited to see the fruits of our last year's labor. Kara, you married into a family of gardeners, so, I am sending you the prayer of St. Theresa, the patron saint of florists,

May today there be peace within. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.

May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Let this presence settle into our bones, and allow our soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of you.

I pray for your peace and comfort tomorrow as you start your next chemo treatment. Wonder why God put you where he put you on Monday, and have the wisdom to be open to His words,
We love you, Gamma and Gampa

Hi Kara, I check your website at least weekly and as many have said you are the inspiration to us with your testimony and thanksgiving, thank you for being so willing to share and open your life as we pray together for your complete physical healing. I will pray your requests this week, also for peace as you enter this 2nd round of treatment.
In Christ, Holly W., Joplin
