Kara and Matt are out of the Houston area now, and the traffic has thinned out. They should be at LaGrange in the next hour or two. I don't know exactly how long it's taken them to get that far, but Kara did say it took them two hours just to go the few miles from their house to Highway 290 out of town. I don't know if John and Carrie have left yet, but as we hear from people, we'll let you know.

In February 2005, Kara was diagnosed with a rare form of metastatic brain cancer – large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma. She is a devoted mother of two, and a caring and generous wife, sister and daughter. This blog was started to keep family and friends informed of Kara's progress. The thoughts and prayers Kara has received through this blog have been an unending source of hope and inspiration, including many kind and encouraging comments from people she has never met. We thank you all.

We will keep you all in our prayers and everyone in the Houston area as you go through yet another difficult storm. We are glad that the family is gathering in a safe place. God's plan is always at work even when we don't see it ourselves.

Oh, I'm so sorry, Kara. I know that I would want to have the thing zapped as soon as I could, too. But medically it probably won't hurt to wait a bit, and maybe you could go elsewhere for the treatment if the hurricane causes too long a delay. In the meantime, enjoy being with your family in La Grange. Thanks to your family for taking my daughter in and out of harm's way, too.
